I wish you could see the day today
It was grey like your eyes
And we could have been friends
you and I
I wish we were
I wish that we had been good friends
All the things you didn’t know
the innocence of thirteen years
should be white like a swan
you felt like an ugly duckling

in the space between
my heavy eyelids
and the music dying
and the laptop closing
in the black shut eyes
I remember how you smell
and the warmth of your back
our feet in a pile
and I miss you terribly
in waking

2030

what was the sea
that swept your love away from me
the ocean
that drowning plane of vast emotion
a moat
in tarry black i sink and choke
the supposed gift
of love should soar
and lift
but burdensome
and useless as our hearts become
your worship ways and my sore knees
the extent to which i tried to please
the future laughs
the answers rustling in the trees
punchlines [...]
