In the sky again

I want to go home! I wanna go home :o(
Yesterday me and Laurie and Melanie almost had an altercation (!!!!) with a cabbie that wouldn’t take us to In-and-Out burger, which I wanted to go to really bad because hey, it’s my vacation and I was hungry. He finally got off his cell phone and said it was closed (at 10:10pm? On a Saturday? Uh, no.) and that he could take us to Denny’s (ew) or McDonald’s (which I wouldn’t usually object to except, damn it, I WANTED LOCAL FOOD!) . We were sure he was wrong about I&OB but whatever. We asked about this one that we heard about on Santa Clara Street (“You mean Santa Clara AVENUE!?” “…okay, sure.”) and he told us it was 4-5 miles away and would cost us about $30 to get there. Psh. We pass.
So we ask him if there’s anything else he knew of around the area that’d be open that late and he was like “uh, there’s this uh, Jack In The Box on Santa Clara Avenue.” DUDE. We just told you we didn’t want to go there. Why would we go there to eat something completely different when we already told you we didn’t even want to go that far for what we actually WANTED? At this point it’s fairly obvious our cabbie’s no help whatsoever and we’re not going to get anywhere so Laurie asks him to take us home. We essentially paid him to drive us around the block. Laurie makes sure he’s aware that he won’t get anywhere being rude to passengers and not knowing the area well enough to find a restaurant and he starts yelling at her.
This is where it starts getting scary. They have this shouting match over the fact that he’s the worst, rudest cabbie ever and he’s yelling at us because he’s apparently unaware of this and since I’m somewhat adverse to shouting I just want to get out of the cab. Just want to getthehelloutrightthefucknow. I was way scared. I wanted a dude. Never mind the antifeminist implications of that statement- I just wanted my dad. Dad/Evan/Branaan/Reagan/Steve would have been like “STFU cabbie” and he would have shut up and taken us to get hamburgers. But instead I’m in a backseat with a guy yelling at us and I’m scared.
We get out of the car and the guy’s still yelling. We throw some money at him and get out of there. We go to the front desk and call the cab company and complain and they say they’ve had problems with this guy before. Ugh. So Laurie chews them out and I go outside to tell Brittany and Courtney the story and they are HORRIFIED (I wish Brittany had been in the cab- she prolly would have sat up front and clocked him one). Then I watched TV and went to bed. Jeez, man.
I feel like, while I definitely enjoyed Blogher and I want to go back, I will make better plans to see the area next time- leave a day to take the train to San Francisco, rent a car to drive about, something. Something to where I’m not at the mercy of others to drive me somewhere. And not yell at me. I don’t think that’s asking a lot. I hear next year it’s in Chicago, which is rockin’ because I have peeps there. Speaking of peeps, I hope my new friends come to SXSW. I bet they will and God knows I’ll be there! How fun would that be!?
I talked to dad and I said the next time he went on a business trip I should go with him because I can crash with him and just pay for airfare, and then I can putter around a new place for cheap. I like to putter. Puttering’s my favorite.

In a future post I’ll write a Blogher recap and share some of the things it meant to me. I know this post is already waaaaay too long.
