Visit with Dad-in-review

Alright, this is a day or two overdue but I’ve been illin’ hardcore so yeah, it’s here now.

Dad and I left Tyler on the 28th, and got in in time for dinner. We ate at Hill’s Cafe, and it was really nice. I really liked my food (I’m not really a fan of dry-roasted ribs but I liked these) and dad’s was okay. Our waiter seemed to be a little too happy. We went to bed but I couldn’t sleep at all, so I stayed up and watched the minutes go by, and wrote some really bad poetry.

We woke up the next morning and ate breakfast at Quack’s. It was really nice. We sat and read the paper, and talked about the Rose Bowl and Dick Tomey. I like people I can just sit around and talk with, about nothing. And he was so nice, even though I was sick and bitchy he was so nice. I love my dad so much.

We went home and I took a nap, while he went out for a long walk around campus. My dad went to UT too, so he has a lot of memories and history with all of it. He came back and I woke up, and we went to Asti Trattoria, this place across the street from Quack’s that I’ve always thought looked cool.

Let me tell you something about Asti. I had this panini sandwich with portobello mushrooms and goatcheese and tomato pesto, and it invalidated every other sandwich I’ve ever had. It had this wonderful smoky flavor, and it turns out the mushroom had been smoked over pecan chips. Incredible.

Then we went to the Arboretum and shopped, and then came home and watched TV. For dinner we went to Hyde Park Bar & Grill, which is always nice.

We came back to the apt. and sat around. We are really, really, not all that interesting. We like sitting and reading. So we did that.

The next morning we ate at Kerbey Lane, which, along with HPB&G, has become one of our traditions. After that, he had to go, but it was so much fun to spend a couple of days with my dad.

I love my daddy.
